Private Tongue Tie Clinic

Comprehensive Tongue-Tie Care in the Comfort of Your Home

At Tongue Tie London, we provide professional and compassionate care for babies experiencing feeding challenges related to tongue-tie. Our service is home visit only, tailored to meet your family’s needs in a safe and reassuring environment. We are fully insured with Hiscox and proudly registered with the Association of Tongue Tie Practitioners, CQC, and NMC. If following an assessment a tongue-tie division (frenotomy) is clinically indicated, this can be carried out during the same visit provided your baby is under 6 months of age, in line with current best practice guidelines (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/tongue-tie/).

Important: For babies of this age group, we strongly recommend that you have suitable analgesia (such as infant paracetamol or other age-appropriate pain relief) available at home prior to the visit, should a procedure be required. This helps to manage your baby’s comfort afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What is a tongue tie, and how does it affect my baby?

A tongue tie (ankyloglossia) occurs when the tissue under your baby’s tongue is too tight or short, restricting tongue movement. This can lead to difficulties with breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, and in some cases, speech development. We specialise in assessing and treating tongue ties to improve feeding and comfort for your baby.

2. How do I know if my baby has a tongue tie?

Signs of a tongue tie in babies include:

  • Difficulty latching during breastfeeding.

  • Painful breastfeeding for the mother.

  • Poor weight gain.

  • Clicking sounds during feeding.
Our team offers professional assessments to confirm if your baby has a tongue tie and to determine the best course of action.

3. Why should I choose a private tongue tie clinic?

Choosing a private tongue tie clinic near you ensures faster access to expert care, avoiding long wait times. We provide appointments within 72hrs, comprehensive assessments, and, if clinically indicated, a complimentary tongue tie division as part of your visit.

4. What does 'complimentary tongue tie division if clinically indicated' mean?

This means that if, during your baby’s assessment, our expert determines that a tongue tie division (frenotomy) is necessary, the procedure will be included in the cost of your appointment. This transparent approach ensures there are no unexpected charges.

5. Are your practitioners qualified and insured?

Yes. Our practitioner is highly experienced and fully insured with Hiscox. We are also registered with the Association of Tongue Tie Practitioners, ensuring we follow the highest standards of care and safety. We are regulated by the CQC and NMC, so you can trust us to provide professional, high-quality care for your baby.

6. Do you offer home visits for tongue tie assessments?

Yes! We provide home visit services for your convenience with no additional fee. Our mobile clinic ensures your baby receives expert care in the comfort of your home.

10. Why should I choose Tongue Tie London?

As a trusted private tongue tie clinic, we provide:

  • Registration with the Association of Tongue Tie Practitioners, CQC, and NMC.

  • Flexible options for home visits.

  • Transparent pricing with no hidden fees.

  • Fast, reliable service tailored to your family’s needs.

11. Does my baby need Vitamin K for the procedure?

Yes, Vitamin K is essential for blood clotting and safety during the tongue-tie division. If your baby has not received a Vitamin K dose at birth (IM) or a total of two oral doses before the appointment, we will not carry out the procedure. However, you will still be charged for the feeding assessment, tongue-tie evaluation, detailed report, and recommendations provided during the appointment

12. What if my baby has oral thrush or conjunctivitis?

If your baby has been diagnosed with oral thrush or a conjunctivitis (eye infection), we follow evidence-based best practices, which recommend delaying the procedure until the infection is resolved. This reduces the risk of complications and ensures your baby’s safety and comfort. Please consult your GP for appropriate treatment before booking or attending your appointment.

13. What if my baby is under specialist care (e.g., cardiac)?

If your baby is under the care of a specialist, such as a cardiac consultant, please inform them about the planned tongue-tie division and obtain their approval before booking. This ensures your baby’s safety and avoids any disappointment if the procedure cannot be carried out due to underlying health concerns.

14. When is the best time for a tongue-tie assessment, and what symptoms should I watch for?

The ideal time for a tongue-tie assessment is within the first 12 weeks of life, as early intervention improves infant feeding and recovery. Babies under 12 weeks are easier to manage due to softer oral tissues, and treatment at this stage is more effective (NICE, 2020). However, the decision and timing for a frenotomy should be individualised. Janet is trained using the Hazelbaker Assessment Tool for Lingual Frenulum Function (HATLFF). The tool is specifically designed to evaluate tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) in infants under six months of age, irrespective of their feeding method. Therefore, would only be able to assess babies and infants under the age of 6 months.

Symptoms of Tongue Tie in Babies:

-Difficulty latching or staying latched during breastfeeding.
-Painful breastfeeding for the mother (e.g., cracked or sore nipples).
-Poor weight gain or slow weight gain.
-Frequent feeds without satisfaction.
-Clicking or smacking sounds while feeding.
-Excessive gas or colic-like symptoms.
-Milk dribbling from the baby's mouth during feeds.
-Baby struggling to maintain a seal on the bottle or breast.
-Baby appearing frustrated or fussy during feeds.
-A heart-shaped or notched tongue when sticking out.
-Difficulty lifting the tongue to the roof of the mouth.

15. What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?

We understand that plans can change. However, we have the following policies in place:

Highest Standards of Care and Safety:

When choosing a provider for your baby’s tongue-tie care, you want trusted expertise, a gentle approach, and clear, transparent pricing. We offer over 15 years of newborn & maternity experience, registration with the Association of Tongue Tie Practitioners, CQC, and NMC, and a commitment to your baby’s safety and comfort. Whether you prefer a home visit or an in-clinic appointment, our care includes a complimentary tongue-tie division if needed, all delivered with the highest standards of professionalism. With flexible booking options and expert support, you can trust us to make your baby’s feeding journey smoother.

Expert Healthcare Professionals:

We use sterile scissors designed specifically for tongue-tie procedures, following strict Aseptic Non-Touch Technique (ANTT) for maximum safety. Research supports scissors as a quick, effective method with minimal discomfort and faster recovery compared to other options. Evidence shows that anaesthetic is unnecessary for infants, as the procedure is brief, and using it may prolong distress without added benefit (NICE, 2020).

We avoid lasers due to the risk of thermal damage and longer healing times, as highlighted in studies comparing thermal and manual division techniques (Kummer, 2014). Our approach ensures precision, safety, and immediate feeding improvements for your baby.

Cutting-edge Techniques and Technology:

Beyond direct services, we offer comprehensive support, ensuring holistic wellness for all. Our dedicated practitioner goes the extra mile to provide personalised care, education, and ongoing guidance, empowering patients to achieve optimal health and confidence.
